How do I behave correctly at the scene of an accident?
Firstly, it is important that you remain calm and secure the accident site. Switch on the hazard warning lights and set up a warning triangle at a sufficient distance.
If there are any injuries, call an ambulance (110 and 112 are free numbers) and provide first aid.
In the next step, it is important to document the course of the accident and all data relating to the vehicles. You should make a note of the following data:
- Course of the accident with exact location and time of the accident
- If possible, take photos of the scene of the accident and the vehicles, paying particular attention to brake and splinter marks
- Vehicle licence plate number
- Insurer and policy number of the party responsible for the accident
- Name and address of witnesses

When should the police be called?

If it is a Minor damage and if the question of guilt has been clearly clarified by the persons involved, it is not absolutely necessary to inform the police.
But beware: If you have an accident in a rented vehicle or abroad, it is always advisable to call the police.
